Sound Magic announces the release of Neo Piano Chapters: F308, a new virtual concert grand piano designed to capture the refined, balanced character of an Italian 10-foot concert grand inspired by the renowned Fazioli F308.
Combining 127 true sampled velocity layers, advanced Hybrid Modeling Technology, MIDI 2.0 support, and Sound Magic’s Neo Piano Yosemite Engine, F308 delivers an expressive concert-grand experience while requiring only approximately 550 MB of storage.
A Piano Designed for Musical Continuity
The F308 has a distinctive musical personality: clear without becoming harsh, balanced across the keyboard, and rich in singing resonance. Its registers maintain a consistent and refined character, allowing melodies to remain expressive and focused from the lowest notes to the highest register.
This makes F308 particularly suited to solo piano, film scoring, contemporary classical music, ambient productions, ballads, and other music where the piano carries the emotional center of the composition.
127 True Sampled Velocity Layers
F308 is part of Sound Magic’s Virtuoso Grade Piano series. Rather than relying on a small number of sampled velocity layers and conventional interpolation, F308 features 127 true sampled velocity layers—the maximum velocity resolution available through traditional MIDI 1.0.
The result is exceptionally detailed response to the player’s touch, with smoother transitions between dynamic levels and a more natural relationship between playing strength and tonal character.
With a compatible MIDI 2.0 controller, F308 goes further. Sound Magic’s FreeForm Layers V2 technology works with the Hybrid Modeling Engine to create more than 512 effective dynamic layers, providing extremely fine control over musical expression.
Hybrid Modeling: Realism Without the Massive Footprint
Instead of choosing between sampling and modeling, F308 combines both approaches.
The instrument uses carefully captured piano samples as the foundation while Hybrid Modeling technology extends the instrument’s responsiveness and efficiency. This allows F308 to preserve the character and harmonic richness of an acoustic concert grand while dramatically reducing the storage and loading requirements normally associated with high-end piano libraries.
At approximately 550 MB, F308 is designed to offer a practical alternative to piano libraries that can require hundreds of gigabytes of disk space.
Shape the Piano Beyond the Original Recording
F308 also incorporates Sound Magic’s MDIR Sound Stage and High-End Microphone Modeling Technology, giving musicians the ability to explore different spatial and tonal perspectives while retaining the personality of the original piano.
From intimate studio environments to spacious concert-hall perspectives, F308 is designed to adapt to different production requirements rather than locking the musician into a single recording perspective.
Built for Modern MIDI Performance
Neo Piano Chapters: F308 is powered by the Neo Piano Yosemite Engine and includes Hybrid Sampling + Modeling, FreeForm Layers V2, MIDI 2.0 support, polyphonic aftertouch support, high-resolution pedaling, and an architecture optimized for fast loading and efficient CPU and memory usage.
“F308 is about more than reproducing a beautiful piano recording,” says Sound Magic. “It is about preserving the musical character of an Italian concert grand while giving modern musicians an unprecedented level of expressive control in an instrument that is remarkably compact.”
